  • London hosts on Airbnb are cumulatively set to earn over half a million across the three games in October
  • London hosts on Airbnb will welcome the highest number of American football fans from Seattle and Philadelphia

London has been hosting American football games since 2007 and they’re proving popular not only amongst Londoners, with the Mayor of London supporting the sport in the capital, but also for fans from the teams’ US cities.

Londoners are set to earn over half a million during the October matches by listing their space on Airbnb, welcoming an influx of fans from Seattle, Oakland, Tennessee, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Jacksonville.*

Of the six teams playing in London this autumn, Airbnb today reveals that fans from Seattle will make up the highest number of supporters in terms of guest arrivals to the capital, travelling over 4,700 miles to see their team play on 14 October. Fans from Philadelphia, whose team are the current American football champions, follow in close second in terms of the number of guest arrivals to London for their game against Jacksonville on 21 October.*

Fans ranked by the number of guest arrivals to London during the weekends of their matches*:

Seattle

Philadelphia

Los Angeles

Jacksonville

Tennessee

Oakland

In particular, London is seeing a significant boom in guest arrivals from Philadelphia (935% increase compared to the same time last year*), Jacksonville (869%), Seattle (508%) and Tennessee (224%).

Ranked by nationality, the US tops the list in terms of the number of guest arrivals to London over these three weekends, overtaking Brits from their top spot. Over the course of the three weekends, with games held on 14, 21 and 28 of October, the average nightly booking price of homes on Airbnb in London is just £85. This is good news for American football fans from Seattle and Philadelphia in particular, who are making the most of their trip to the UK, with groups spending an average of seven days in the capital.

Airbnb has a unique ability to help areas accommodate a surge in demand around major sports events, enabling local residents to make extra money, while acting as ambassadors for their city and communities. For those visiting cities for the first time, we hope that they’ll be motivated by their experiences with local hosts to come back again and again, ensuring a sustainable and long-term economic impact for the city.
